Your NEXT green councillor, AMANDA SAMPSON
Amanda has lived in Godalming for the last three years and was motivated to stand for Waverley after falling in love with the area and learning about the challenges facing local people.
She works with both private and public sector organisations to improve the way their services are designed and delivered, all the while fighting for inclusive, sustainable services that work for everyone.
Amanda believes that the best outcomes will be achieved with Greens in the room, through constructive engagement between the different progressive parties.
THE THREATS TO OUR COUNTRYSIDE AND THE PROPOSAL TO DRILL FOR GAS IN DUNSFOLD MEANS THAT HAVING GREENS IN THE ROOM HAS NEVER BEEN MORE IMPORTANT
As councillor, Amanda will implement Waverley’s CLIMATE ACTION PLAN, ranked as the fifth most robust plan of all the boroughs and districts in the UK by independent climate organisation Climate Emergency UK.
Amanda discussing the next steps in Waverley Borough Council’s court action against the government over its exploratory drilling for fossil fuels in Dunsfold with Green Party Leader and spokesperson for Environment & Sustainability, Steve Williams, and Council Leader Paul Follows
Greens believe in working for a better, greener future:
- A robust response to our climate emergency and opposing fossil fuel extraction in our countryside;
- More genuinely affordable energy efficient homes and more and better social housing; and,
- Revitalising our high streets and building a sustainable transport infrastructure.
In Waverley, collaborating as part of a progressive coalition with Liberal Democrats, Labour, and independents, we have:
- Won a judicial review with the aim of protecting Dunsfold from fossil fuel drilling;
- Promoted biodiversity, trees, woodlands and cleaner rivers;
- Expanded provision of sustainable, social and genuinely affordable housing; and,
- Begun decarbonising Waverley’s buildings, including Leisure Centres.
